Sports Nutrition for Teams & Coaches
Coaches, this is the best way to get all
of your athletes headed in the right direction quickly!
Your goal is to have fueled, hydrated athletes ready to compete but those athletes have to learn the skills to fuel and hydrate appropriately.
When working with teams, we focus on general healthy eating patterns before moving on to position specific needs across different training cycles and different types of workouts. We talk a lot about traveling and how to eat well while traveling, including snacks and healthier fast food choices.
General healthy eating pattern discussions lead nicely into a discussion on supplementation, governing body guidelines on supplementation, and how to find safe supplements. Healthy eating also leads to hydration patterns, as well as what and how to drink during events. Body composition change, either weight or muscle mass gain or weight loss, can be addressed with the entire team or a subset of team members.
With individual team members or small groups, we can do sweat tests and talk about gastrointestinal concerns and cramping. We can also give seminars on special topics like scheduling and organizing food, self-care, sleep, mindful eating, and maintaining a healthy body image. Cooking demonstrations or fieldtrips like grocery store tours help with life skills like menu planning, shopping, and cooking that enhance the abilities of any athlete.
Ensure that nutrition is consistent so that training and strategy and mental toughness have a solid foundation to build on.
- More consistent rosters; less turnover
